FAQ- Wedding Day Makeup

One of the questions we get asked frequently is about wedding day makeup. The biggest thing I can do is to send them to one of our preferred vendors, professionals to KNOW makeup for all occasions and how to make it work for you. Please ask if you need a referral, I'd love to put you in touch.

Generally I believe that doing your own makeup is a mistake. It can add to the stress of a bride on a day that should be relaxed and happy.

From our FAQ Sheet about MAKEUP:
  • ALWAYS have a trial run (or two) well in advance of your wedding. This is the 'no surprises' very best way to make sure that you will love the way you look. Remember, if you are not happy with the way you look on your wedding day your photos will capture every detail! If you are having a bridal portrait session you will get a chance to see how long it takes to do your makeup, how it feels, how long it lasts and most importantly how it looks in your photos. Without a formal session you can still take some snapshots to see how your look translates.
  • Keep it CLEAN & SIMPLE
  • Look like YOU, just more polished. If you normally don't wear a lot of makeup, your wedding day is not a great time to start! Take your daily routine and add a bit more polish--- ask a makeup professional for advise if you don't know where to start.
  • Long-lasting lipcolor, eyeshadow and liner are available and useful. Remember, you will be 'kissed on' a lot during your day, and you will probably shed a tear or two.
  • Waterproof mascara is a must--- don’t forget to purchase remover! You might be surprised to learn that soap and water might not take off your mascara, check the label and pick up a bottle of remover if called for.
  • Carry shine absorber sheets & lip color with you. They are easily available and inexpensive, your whole wedding party will be happy!
  • Expensive is not always best. Oh sure, we love the cosmetics in the shiny black containers with the big white "C"....... or many other of the shishi brands. But they are not always best. If you already use the pricier brands, great, no need to stop now! If you don't, don't feel like you must. Ask friends what cosmetic lines work for them, stop by to see their representative/makeup artists and experiment a bit. If your choice is a drug store brand--- no worries. Many of these brands are produced by the 'big boys' and are great choices. The most important thing is HOW you look with your makeup style, NOT the name of the style itself. If you opt to have a professional do your wedding day makeup you can be assured you will receive a quality product.
  • When you have on your ‘trial wedding face-- ask for opinions...and listen! Everyone has an opinion and they will be more than happy to give you one if you ask (and sometimes if you don't!)

Love is in the Air

...and when I say love is in the air, I don't mean as in flying the helicopter in the air! Although that definitely IS love (to me)...... I meant the weather in St. Louis. Did you notice this weekend when you were out and about in the gorgeous weather how many wedding photographers were shooting engagement sessions? It beats the cold and gray weather we've had recently!

Hope you got out to enjoy the beautiful spring weather, looks like some chilly temps and rain are moving in---- what can you say, it is SPRING in St. Louis!

For The Grooms

Grooms----- are you a little nervous at the thought of being photographed for hours on end on your wedding day? That doesn't sound like a good prospect? I have some thoughts to keep things calm:

Help select your photographer if possible. Your comfort level and feedback is very important.

Don't fight your bride to be when it comes to engagement sessions! Having the opportunity to get to know your photographer better and "practice" being in front of the lens is an excellent opportunity to take the edge off before your wedding day.

A trial run haircut is NOT just for the bride and her attendants! Try YOUR haircut a couple of times before the big day. You'll then be comfortable knowing you'll look good!

Make sure you pick up your tux early enough to insure that it fits well. Having well fitting clothes makes a big difference in your confidence.

Don't drink too much----- keep a cool head.

Have fun and relax!

Blues Engagement Session

Bobbi Brinkman and I had the pleasure of shooting an engagement session for Brandie and Jerry at a recent Blues game. The session was really great and I think Brandie and Jerry had a lot of fun.

The Peabody Opera House is a civic performing arts building in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded as the Kiel Opera House, it opened it 1934 and operated until 1991, when it and the adjacent Kiel Auditorium were closed so the auditorium could be demolished and replaced by the Scottrade Center. When the auditorium was slated for demolition, the owners of the complex promised to rehabilitate the Opera House as well.[3] The owners, however, never renovated the building, instead claiming that they had fulfilled their financial obligations. In June, 2009, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen voted 25-1 to subsidize the renovation and reopening of the Opera House under the direction of its new owners, Sports Capital Partners.[4][5] The subsidies will be funded by municipal bonds and state/federal historic tax credits. It should be ready for reopening in Fall 2011.[6]. On July 12, 2010, it was announced that the name of the opera house would be changed to The Peabody Opera House, named after the company Peabody Energy.

It is always fun to photograph at the Peabody Opera House!

Tom Paule at the Peabody Opera House

I'm very honored to be part of the buzz at the Peabody Opera House in St. Louis. Taking photographs of this grande dame of architecture in the city has been exciting and definitely gives a boost to my creative energy!

The building is absolutely amazing but to see it all dressed out in scaffolding and under the work of construction is fantastic to see. The construction company on this enormous project is the Paric Corporation and the developers are Optimus Development.

That is Scott above, he's currently interning for Bobbi Brinkman Photography and myself. I imagine he never thought that he'd be wearing a hardhat during his internship!

More photos from the Peabody Opera House to come!
